Project Woodworks’ Socially Responsible and Environmentally Sustainable ‘Shivelight’ Watches
Project Woodworks is a venture by two lifelong friends in which one of the founders came from a family business of producing antique wooden furniture. Though the business did not survive, Project Woodworks was conceived from the idea of creating exclusive, socially responsible, and sustainable products from waste wood. ‘Shivelight’ is the startup’s first collection that features watches made from natural wood. The name of the collection is a word created by poet Gerard Manley Hopkins that expresses “the lances of sunshine that pierce the canopy of a wood.” There are four handcrafted watches in the collection; Maple, Royale, Lunar, and Onyx, all coming in various hues of brown – Maple (Maple Wood) being the lightest in its blondness and Onyx (Dark Hardwood) being the darkest in its almost deep chocolate colour. 80% of ‘Shivelight’ watches are biodegradable and the remaining parts can be recycled or reused. All of the watches are splash proof, has scratch-proof hardened mineral glass, and the buckle and crown are stainless steel.
