One of the seven local acts featured in this month’s JUICE, Reddi Rocket has lent us an exclusive track that might just be his best yet. Channelling Giraffage’s production aesthetics with its unintelligible yet no less emotive vocal samples and dreamy bedroom ambiance, ‘I Can’t, I Don’t Know Why’ is the Akhyla affiliate on his A game. There’s not a single identifiable phrase to be gleaned from the diced-up vocals, but there is palpable feeling to it — vocal sampling is an art after all. Reddi’s sound has seen a few incarnations before and with this track, he’s finally settled for one that shows real promise.
