Porn Actor Arrested for Accidentally Killing Friend with Psychedelic Toad Venom
Does the man in the picture above look familiar? Perhaps the name ‘Nacho Vidal’ will trigger a feeling of familiarity. If it did, you’re sick you’re probably well-read (or watched) when it comes to adult entertainment.
As the title suggests, veteran adult film star Nacho Vidal found himself in a sticky situation (a different kind) after being arrested in connection with the death of fashion photographer, Jose Luis Abad, who died in July 2019, sparking a 11-month investigation into his death.
According to Complex, Spanish police stated that Jose (pictured above) died “during the celebration of a mystic ritual based on the inhalation of venom of the bufo alvarius toad”. That mystic ritual took place at Vidal’s house in Enguera, Valencia where Jose would eventually lose his life.
Now you might be wondering why the ritual happened at Vidal’s house to begin with. According to Yahoo! Finance, Vidal was a strong advocate of inhaling the vapour produced by Colorado River toad venom and believed that it helped to treat his problems with depression and addiction.
The Colorado River toad, also known by its scientific name bufo alvarius is believed to produce a venom which contains a psychedelic substance called 5-MeO-DMT. People who have tried inhaling its venom claim that its effects are similar to the hallucinogenic brew called ayahuasca – a powerful psychedelic substance made from a mix of jungle plants and herbs used in traditional rituals that has been subject to numerous documentaries and turned into tourism where travellers can experience enlightenment for a price.
While ayahuasca is revered in the South American countries of its origin as spiritual medicine with as much emphasis placed on the ritual ceremonies as on ayahuasca itself, it sounds like Vidal’s rituals were not as consistent considering he substituted plants and herbs with a river toad.
Investigators believe that these rituals were regularly taking place at Vidal’s home and also claimed that Vidal posed as a shaman who manipulated vulnerable individuals who were seeking help for illnesses or addictions through alternative methods.
After Vidal was arrested alongside a relative and a worker of his, Vidal’s attorney Daniel Salvador argued with authorities claiming that Abad’s death was accidental while dismissing the notion that his client posed as a shaman who promoted the use of toad venom.
It probably goes without saying that inhaling venomous toad fumes might not be the best way to cure your depression or substance problems, no matter how tempting it sounds.
Put the toad down, have some JUICE instead.
