Places to Go on the Weekend of 8 July — 10 July ’16

If overindulging yourself with rendang and lemang has gotten boring (or you’ve clogged your arteries), perhaps check out gigs that won’t necessarily make you unhealthier. Okay, not all true because alcohol is involved. Get into the post-Raya mood with Solid Gold at Pisco Bar or head over to Nagaba on Sunday evening to catch Meliha Faisal, Naufal, and Vin for its sunset party (with free flow Heineken while stocks last!). For non-alcoholic events, there’s the option of going to MyBurgerLab’s 4th anniversary, which doubles as a fundraiser with the goal of building livable homes for the underprivileged, and the food festival in Mid Valley with vendors comprising of owners, professionals, and industry leaders.

Food Festival MVEC

Would it be sadistic to say the panda is so cute to the extent whereby we’d like to eat it? Possibly. As mentioned earlier, this food festival has a reputation for inviting various figures from the food industry; this decision is made so that consumers can interact with the people who put food on their tables. There isn’t an official list of establishments and brands that are participating, however, if their previous festivals serve as an example, everyone can expect it to be elaborate.

Date Friday 8 July ’16 – Sunday 10 July ’16

They’ve said that nightlife roisters will be able to enjoy music from alternative favourites the likes of The Stone Roses, Portishead, Green Day, and this being a club night, some indie/electro tracks in between, of course.

Join DJs Obadius, Otherkind, Slutski, and Singaporean-based DJ Passion for a night of summer lovin’ – that wasn’t a reference to Justin Timberlake, though it would be great if he were included in the playlist. Tonight however, Elysium reminisces the era of putting flowers in your hair – not via a Snapchat filter – and not conforming to socially acceptable behaviour or thoughts, aka hippies.

It’s become somewhat a tradition for MyBurgerLab to give back to the community by organising charity drives, but this year, they’re turning their generosity up a notch by hosting a fundraiser to raise enough money (RM70,000 to be exact) for a home building project in collaboration with EPIC Homes. The mechanics here work via raffle tickets, which are priced at RM10 per ticket, and each entitles the holder to various benefits. There are various packages customers can look into purchasing as well, such as the Builder Donor (RM1000 for 1 builder slot, t-shirt, and 50 raffle tickets) and Big Shot Donor – prices range from RM5000 to RM2.6b. Hey, if you can afford the latter, you’ll be the proud owner of MyBurgerLab. More information on the fundraiser here.
