sources: Places to Go

It’s the last weekend of March; begin it with something cultured – i.e. Fizjedar’s exhibition at Minut Init or a screening of Malaysian short films – and then continue that learned route the next day with a discourse on vinyl vis-à-vis other media at gig space Live Fact. Of course you’d minimise the partying on the first two nights of this weekend, save that energy for TREC KL’s second A Sunday Affair and Sheila On 7’s return to our shores.

HIGH + Minut Init : An Art Exhibition by Fizjedar

familiar-us-n

Fizjedar has been an independent artist since 2008; his work has been showcased at Sepang International Circuit, The Starhill Gallery, Publika, and he just recently exhibited another art collection called ‘HIGHER’ with Daphne Iking last August. For this collection entitled ‘HIGH’, Fizjedar’s creativity was piqued by aviation, tragedy, and honour, which he managed to produce 25 paintings. Malaysian Shorts ’16

Screen Shot 2016-03-14 at 12.37.38 PM

The night starts with Gavin Yap’s 18 minute short story entitled The Incredibly Strange Tale Of The Man Who Lost His Love But Bought It Back With A Packet Of Duck Rice — it would be unfortunate if the story isn’t as funny as its title. Next is Emir Ezwan’s RM10 — and adaption of Cerpen Regina Ibrahim — which runs for 10 minutes, then, James Lee’s She, and lastly, Dick Chua’s The Happy Ending, which at 45 minutes, it has the longest duration in comparison to the other films listed for the night. Everyone is welcome to catch the screening as seating is free, but get there early to avoid not having a place to sit.

Date Friday 25 March ’16

GOTSOME feat. Kopigo & LZZY

Got Some

If you fancy some bass-heavy house music, look no further than Bristol DJ duo GotSome. Taking a listen to their latest EP Zoo Music, it’s no wonder they’ve been a success since partnering up in 2014. They’re also a fixture on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, so don’t expect any flimsy dance music à la what you’d hear from the big clubs from them. Supporting the London lads that night are Kopigo and LZZY.

Date Friday 25 March ’16
Time 10.30pm
Venue COMO, TREC
Cover RM30 (Before 12am, it’s inclusive of a drink.)

What’s Up with Vinyl? A Mini Talk

Mohd Radzi

Whichever medium you choose to listen to music is entirely up to personal preference. Some people simply enjoy the music, but others take a deeper consideration as to how their enjoyment is affected by the medium and the audio quality that’s being produced.  We here at JUICE have even written a number of pieces on vinyl and cassettes. If you would like to hear the opinions of people whose work surrounds music – namely Teenage Head Records’ Mohd Radzi, Killeur Calculateur’s drummer and BFM producer/announcer Ali Johan, folk rocker and lecturer Azmyl Yunor, and journalist/DJ of Twilight Actiongirl fame Daryl Goh – you can sit in or participate in the discussion. The mini-talk will be moderated by Phang Kuan Hoong and the afterparty’s music selection will be handled by DJ Oddjob.

A Sunday Affair feat. Bittersweet, Froya, +2dB & More

BTSWT 060

This coming Sunday, you can look forward to performances curated by the men of LapSap at the second A Sunday Affair by TREC KL. There are musical performances of both live and DJ variety; Britrock-indebted band Bittersweet, singer-songwriter Froya, and synth duo +2dB will be performing live, providing tunes from disparate genres, while the DJ sets on the other hand, will be delivered via the likes of LapSap themselves, local UK bass pioneer Tubby, BAIT regulars Jee Hoe and Mmmeng, and Irama. Aside from the entertainment, there will be food trucks and a flea market for you to patronise. Worried about the parking situation? The multi-storey car park of TREC’s Phase 2 construction will be opened on Sunday, and it’s cheap! How cheap? Look below:

Spend the last Sunday of March by treating yourself to “something dangerous” from Fierce and Little Rara’s Thai boat noodles (just a couple among other vendors offered!). However, if hot food on a potentially blazing Sunday afternoon doesn’t sound too appetising, the market will also be selling some truffles, cakes, and alcoholic ice cream! Another thing to note is that this edition of DR.Inc’s Food Market will be plastic-free, so food will be served on plates or banana leaves. If you bring your own container, you’ll get RM1 off your order. Don’t miss out.
