Places to Go On The Weekend of 18 — 20 December ’15
Hey, we love our readers – enough that we’re willing to sort your weekend out instead of your having to peruse Facebook for the latest happenings. Yep, from now onwards, at the start of every weekend, JUICE will list – while not everything – gigs, markets, club nights, pop cultural occasions, and anything that catches our fancy. After all, things we dig more often than not translate to things you dig. This weekend starts off with post-punk Aussies, continues with a rooftop party at a boutique hotel, and ends with another pool party by Malaysia’s mainstay dance duo, among other likely-as-cool occurrences, of course.
My Disco Severe Album Tour in KL
Australian post-punk band MY DISCO will be returning to Malaysia for a tour in support of their fourth album Severe. The band will be touring Southeast Asia, but it seems that a third of a quarter of it will be spent in our country; they will be making stops in KL, Soundmaker Studios in Penang, The Key in Malacca, and finally Singapore. You should prepare yourself for a thunderous yet minimal sound to thrash to, it is a dark, all-consuming matter that will envelop you whole. Furthermore, make sure you come early to catch the opening acts that include KILLEUR CALCULATEUR, Singapore’s I Am David Sparkle, Dirgahayu, and Orbit Cinta Benjamin.

Everything Before Us Tour in KL
Wong Fu Productions is currently on tour to promote their new feature film titled Everything Before Us. The movie explores obstacles two couples go through; one of which has been together for many years but recently discovered one of them can’t let go of the past and the other is a young couple that’s been together throughout high school and are now about to go through the struggles of long distance relationship. It’s in typical Wong Fu style, so expect lots of feelings, relatable experiences, and even more feelings. There are two types of tickets available; 1) the general admission + bonus selfie, which entitles the holder to a selfie with the trio — they know how important it is to upload a photo of yourself and the people you admire onto social media, good guys! 2) The other is the limited VIP Pizza Party option, holders of this ticket are invited to a private screening, and eat pizza and hang out with the entire production team. Yeah, you can take selfies here too. Get ’em here.

Pisco Bar Pres. RaySoo + Martini
RaySoo is considered one of KL’s pioneers in the nightlife scene and was dubbed ‘Best New DJ’ more than once (guess by whom?), so his sets are guaranteed to have your backs off the wall. Joining him for the night is Brazil native who uses the moniker Martini — who doesn’t want to see a DJ that shares the same name as James Bond’s favourite drink? If house is your cup of team — seemingly everyone’s cup of tea on Jalan Mesui — then this should be the night today.

DIYKL’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ Christmas Bazaar
DIYKL is offering its crafty services for last minute gifts and stocking stuffers for Christmas. Their booth is usually flooded by a sea of people who are intrigued by all the trinkets and accessories they have displayed nicely on their table. We were one of those people when we saw them at last weekend’s Maker’s Market. Thanks for making us spend money, girls! Check them out if your Christmas shopping list isn’t complete or if you’d like to treat yourself to faux pearl accessories and statement necklaces.

KL Journal — the latest luxury boutique hotel to join the city — and The Other Party are throwing a party where they urge punters to go tropical, and as expected, the tunes that will be circulating around the rooftop party will be tropical house of course — the genre du jour in dance and pop music. Manning the decks will be Taufiq + The Other Guy, along with Alex Asquared and supported by Zudio. Reddi Rocket will also be making a special appearance. You should come and have a good time and pretend that you’re on a cabana. RSVP at [email protected].

Da Funkie Junkie featuring Colin Currie
This night pays tribute to David Mancuso and Larry Levan, two people who basically built the foundation for dance music way back in the ’70s. The night will be hosted by Collin Currie, since it will be a night with the aforementioned DJs in mind, there’ll probably be lots of disco and house tracks played throughout the night. No heavy bass here, sorry. Ladies are entitled to special drink promotions and while there is no cover charge, if guests book a table through Mr. Brooks’ DJs, they’ll be given special discounts for bottle purchase. Swell.

Boogie Arcadie featuring El Gringo and Marc Tanner
Pisco’s monthly event is back in December. Their regular DJ El Gringo and Marc Tanner will play hosts for the night. When it comes down to it, there’s no better place to party — without having to dress up fancily or wait in line to get into a mediocre club — than Changkat. Entry is free too! Enjoy the last party weekend because next week’s going to be filled with Christmas parties and all the holiday obligations that come with it. Like, family dinners you can’t run from.

Star Wars Lego Exhibition
Yes, another Star Wars post to clog the Internet. Thought you could run from it? Think again! In addition to having an elaborate exhibition of all things Star Wars, 501st Legion Malaysia will be making a special appearance as well. Now you won’t be the only one to cosplay! Besides looking at plastic bricks, guests can also participate in numerous building games from speed building to father and son tower building — mothers can’t be Star Wars fans too? Here we thought the new movie passed the Bechdel test — and lots of food and beverage stalls to eat at.

LapSap’s 8th Anniversary Pool Party
That’s right, the other popular DJ duo Blink is one-half of is turning eight this year. Like all of their previous birthday parties, this one also involves a pool, beers, and a nightlong’s worth of good music. LapSap’s parties have gained a reputation for getting a little out of control (no) thanks to alcohol and people who weren’t blessed with tolerable tolerance towards the addictive substance. But it’s all in the name of good fun, so we suppose it all works out properly, right? It’s free for all but an RSVP is required. Email [email protected] to secure your spot on their guestlist.
