After suffering a blowout at the recent Melaka elections, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has indicated that it wants to abandon the shared Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo, in favour of the coalition using the PKR banner in future elections.

This is according to the party’s communications director and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

“This matter had been stressed by the PKR leadership and grassroots’ earlier on for the Melaka polls. However, since PKR understood the stand of our PH comrades at the time, we decided to agree to using the (PH) logo,” he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

“However, moving forward, PKR’s view is that there is some justification for PKR’s logo to be used again. This matter will be discussed in further detail at the coming PH meeting.”

Previously, the PH component parties had used the PKR logo in the 14th General Elections, after their coalition had not been registered formally in time.

They emerged victorious on that occasion, winning a majority in a historic upset of the long-ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

However, the situation is different in Sabah and Sarawak, where the individual parties had always contested using their own banners.

Meanwhile, the DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke had called on all the PH coalition partners to use their own logos, after the disappointing result in Melaka.

“At this point, I am of the view that each party should use their own logos, as they each have their own strengths,” he said according to Malaysiakini, adding, “We can all still win even if we don’t use a shared logo.”

The Melaka elections saw PKR lose all 11 of the state seats it contested, DAP winning four seats out of eight, while AMANAH managed one win out of nine.
