Pandelela Bags Bronze At The World Championships Final In Budapest, Tallying 7 Medals In Total
The nation’s best diver has done it again!
Malaysian diver Pandelela Rinong brought home Malaysia’s very first medal at the 19th World Aquatics Championships (Fina WAC 2022) in Budapest this morning, in her 10m platform individual event, earning a score of 338.85.
Yesterday (June 28), the Championships saw her finishing seventh in the semi-finals for the same category.
The 29-year-old boasted a total of 313.15 points overall.
Meanwhile, 2019 world champion and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games silver medalist Chen Yuxi, 16, of China, finished off the semis with 427.00 points, earning her the top spot at the sports event.
It was undoubtedly a vindication for the two-time Olympic medalist, who finished 12th at the Tokyo Olympics 2 years ago, and placed 4th just after the 2nd dive but shifted up a spot after the 3rd as her competitors lost momentum:
Netizens have also applauded Pandelela’s recent performance, completely inspirational and deserving of national praise.
Pandelela, who won the 2021 World Cup gold medal in Tokyo, is the most senior or veteran diver in the women’s 10m platform event in Budapest.
In the 2019 edition, Pandelela placed 5th in the 10m platform but earned silver in the women’s 10m platform, in sync with her partner Datuk Leong Mun Yee.
Today, which marks Day 10 of the 19th FINA World Championships in Budapest now adds to the diver’s list of special dates featuring her astounding achievements; also marking her 2nd individual medal at the World Championships & 7th in total, including Malaysia’s first-ever gold medal in the Diving World Cup.
The championship began on June 18 and is set to take place until July 3.
Congrats Pandelela, we’re rooting for you!
