The Orient Bambino is turning 75, and the Japanese watchmaker is celebrating it with the release of a wide assortment of new dial colours, along with two limited edition anniversary models.
Long known as one of the most popular ‘attainable’ mechanical watches on the market, the Orient Bambino has earned its laurels over the years. It’s not surprising—it looks way more expensive than it actually is and it’s got a timeless, vintage appearance that looks good on anyone.
The standard Bambino gets four fun new dial colours
The beloved Bambino, part of Orient’s Classic Collection, has always been a global bestseller for the brand. It’s got a traditional curved dial and domed glass that give it a retro feel, and its delicate case design makes it sit rather flush on most wrists. You won’t need to worry about the watch wearing you.
The four new dial colours you can get comprise green, navy blue, bordeaux, as well as the first-ever beige dial on a Bambino. Depending on which dial colour you’re looking at, the watch also comes with pink gold, yellow gold, and silver-coloured roman numerals and hands.

This writer personally has his eyes on the beige dial. There’s just something so weathered and worn about its appearance.
It’s got a case width of 40.5mm, which means it’s not too big if you’ve got small wrists, though it does lean on the larger end of the spectrum. With a water resistance of 3 bar (30m), don’t expect to go diving with this watch—not that you’d want to anyway. But when it comes to regular splashes by the pool and bouts of light rain, you’ll be just fine.
In addition to the standard Bambino, which features a clean, minimal dial with a date window, you can also opt for one with a day and night display featuring a sun and moon design.

It comes in the same dial colours as the standard Bambino, minus the beige variant. But it’s tailored for people who prefer a slightly more intricate design with its multiple complications.
And they’re pretty self-explanatory—you’ve got a date window, a day complication (in case you always forget what day it is, like me), as well as a pretty sun and moon disk that rotates once every 24 hours to remind you that you’ve survived yet another day.

Like the standard Bambino, this more complicated version features 30m of water resistance, as well as a 40-hour power reserve when fully-wound. Its case, however, is slightly bigger at 41.5mm, which might not be suitable for people with small wrists.
But hey, if you want to wear a large watch, don’t let this lowly writer tell you otherwise. Some small-wristed people can definitely pull it off. I can’t. 🙁
Two limited edition anniversary pieces for the super fans
Straying from the more casual releases are two limited edition Bambinos that embody the spirit of the watch’s 75 years.
Coming in both the standard as well as the sun/moon complication variants, the two 75th Anniversary Orient Bambinos feature a truly vintage design, especially noticeable with the Orient logo on their dials, written in a 1950s cursive script.

The two watches also feature white dials with pink gold-coloured indices and blue hands, and a retro-looking beige nubuck leather strap (in addition to the default Bambino leather strap).

Looking behind the dials of both watches, you’ll see a see-through case back revealing the in-house mechanical movements, as well as “Orient Since 1950 75th Anniversary” marked on the glass. Each watch also comes engraved with their respective limited edition serial numbers.
The standard dial Bambino 75th Anniversary watch is limited to 9,500 pieces worldwide, while the sun/moon Bambino has a run of just 5,500 pieces.
While Orient doesn’t have an official presence in Malaysia, it does have authorised dealers here. If you’re looking to get your hands on any of these watches, click here to find your nearest dealer. Prices may vary.
