One Malaysia, 15 Films

Make way for the new wave of Malaysian filmmakers! Ballsy, confrontational, irreverent and unafraid to tackle sensitive subjects. Whether it’s the late great Yasmin Ahmad with her inter-racial tales of love lost and found or Tan Chui Mui’s chilling prediction of Malaysia’s Orwellian future, these are the storytellers of our generation. Leading WiMAX telco Packet One Networks recently championed their cause, taking freedom of expression to another level by launching P1 Malaysian Filmmaker Showcase Presenting 15Malaysia.

Produced by singer-songwriter Pete Teo, 15MALAYSIA features the works of 15 independent filmmakers and is available for streaming or downloading at 15malaysia.com/films or at www.ruumz.com for FREE. The sites will be releasing 3 short films a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

15MALAYSIA boasts a who’s who list of local filmmakers, celebrities, actors, musicians and even several political figures who were more than happy to contribute to the support of this groundbreaking project.

The filmmakers and cast include the late Yasmin Ahmad, Ho Yuhang, James Lee, Tan Chui Mui, Amir Muhammad, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Amber Chia, Datuk Haji Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Sharifah Amani, Jason Lo, Khairy Jamaluddin, Harith Iskandar, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, Daphne Iking, Tian Chua, Sarah Lian, Serena C, Patrick Teoh, Baki Zainal and Ida Nerina, amongst others.

You can already tune into the above mentioned websites to watch Yasmin Ahmad’s tender short Chocolate. Meanwhile check out controversial local Chinese rapper Namewee in Potong Saga – an outrageous tale of a man applying for an Islamic bank account, below.
