Nosaj Thing

Jason Chung aka Nosaj Thing has become one of the biggest names in LA’s inner circle of synth-based, instrumental hip hop producers. The City of Angels native found himself hooked on the Beat Junkies on Power 106 during the days when his elementary school bus driver would set the dial on hip hop radio stations. Using his father’s old PC, he started creating his own beats before graduating to appearances at Low End Theory, a weekly night at Airliner for experimental hip hop and electronica.

There, he linked up with likeminded names such as Flying Lotus, Nobody, Daedelus, D-Styles and Daddy Kev. Taking cues and influences from creative minds like Boards of Canada, DJ Shadow, Danny Elfman and Erik Satie, it’s no surprise where his erratic beats and soul come from. ‘Aquarium’ from Nosaj Thing’s self-released Views/Octopus EP was used by Kid Cudi as the basis of ‘Man On The Moon’, and when Nosaj released his debut album Drift under Daddy Kev’s label Alpha Pup last year, it peaked at #5 on the iTunes Electronic chart and led to coverage in Spin, Fader, The New Yorker, Nylon and URB. For now, this noise constructor continues to be the leading man in the underground touring circuit.
