Tokyo-born two-time Olympic gold medalist skateboarder, Yuto Horigome, is back with his second Nike SB Dunk collab.
Dubbed the Nike SB Dunk Low “Matcha”, this pair is a quiet flex—a blend of style, heritage, and that distinct Yuto calm that somehow makes even the gnarliest trick look buttery-smooth.
A nod to Yuto’s Japanese roots
At first glance, the kicks might look like they belong in the vegetable aisle at a grocery store. Nike’s official “Asparagus/Legion Green/Light Khaki” colourway nomenclature had people calling them the “Asparagus” Dunks for a while. But there’s something deeper brewing here.
Turns out, this colorway is inspired by matcha tea, Yuto’s favourite drink and a nod to his roots in Japan. If you’re familiar with matcha, you’ll know it isn’t just a drink, it’s a ritual of sorts—a practice in patience and precision, which honestly feels like the perfect metaphor for Yuto’s skating.
The upper features soft Light Khaki suede, paired with speckled green leather overlays that look like they were dusted with matcha powder. The heel is wrapped in a brown, bamboo-inspired texture that adds that earthy feel. If you’ve ever whisked matcha the traditional way, you’ll know those tiny clumps and earthy tones.
The dotted overlays are a subtle reference to how matcha sometimes forms little powder balls when it’s not whisked perfectly. It’s niche, but super satisfying once you catch it.
Like his previous SB Dunk collab, Yuto made sure to include his family crest—you’ll find it stamped on the heel, behind the tongue, and even on the insole.
The Matcha Dunks come with alternate laces too, including a soft pink set that adds a sweet contrast if you’re feeling bold.
From the streets of Tokyo to the podiums of the Olympics
Yuto’s journey is inspiring. From skating the streets of Tokyo to standing on Olympic podiums, and now linking with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and Supreme—it’s wild how far he’s come, and these Dunks feel like a personal love letter to all of that.
You can tell this isn’t just another collab slapped together for hype. It’s deliberate and thoughtful, like matcha itself.
The shoes released on the Nike SNKRS app on 5 April for a retail price of RM609. At the time of writing, they are unfortunately sold out. But you can definitely find a pair (for an upcharge) on platforms like StockX.
