New Balance APAC Tri Color Launch @ Tokyo
The annual New Balance Asia Pacific project launch have previously been held in cities such as Shanghai and Singapore, and this year’s ceremony took place in Tokyo on the 27th of September. This year’s event brought out some of the familiar faces from the Asian street culture scene; Mr. Shigeyuki Kunii (Mitt Sneakers), Blake (UNDFTD Japan), Mandeep Chopra (Limited Edt) and Bebop (Sillything).
2010’s New Balance APAC Tri Color collection is a throwback to New Balance’s sport’s heritage. A celebration of the footwear giant’s heritage colours – burgundy red, navy blue and classic gray, the collection was launched alongside a photographic art exhibition. The photographs were compiled to a charity photo album, and the exhibition featured works from photographic artists Mr. Kim Hyeon Seong from Korea, Japan’s Mr. Masatoshi Nagase and Mr. Quo Ying Sheng from Taiwan. The event also showcased the 10 winners from the Japanese side of the ‘What’s your Balance?’ photo contest and were presented prizes from Mr. Nagase himself, and were given a chance to speak about their work.
After the event, there was an excursion to the Omotesando Station for the unveiling of the new advertising campaign, which features the works of the 3 photographic artists, and is installed along two passageways inside the busy station. It was an event that highlighted the importance and force of the Asian street culture scene and it’s inspiration to New Balance’s APAC Tri Color collection.
