It looks like we can expect a Y2k-inspired drop from New Balance soon, reportedly dubbed the New Balance 2000 ABZORB.

It’s a fitting name (if true), considering the chunky silhouette and generous amount of cushioning.

Teased by @soaressssssssssssssss on Instagram, the New Balance 2000 ABZORBs come in what looks to be a chill, sky-blue colourway mixed with some grey and white base accents.

The first thing that really stands out is the prominent podular-style midsole, featuring New Balance’s signature ABZORB cushioning. If you were to compare them to an existing silhouette, it’d make sense to look at the New Balance 9060, which features a (comparatively) more streamlined midsole.

But the comparison does make sense, especially since the 2000 ABZORB is—as its name implies—inspired by the Y2K aesthetic. It’s a look back at running shoes before slimmer silhouettes became trendy. The 2000 ABZORB essentially looks like a 9060 before it got a slight nip and tuck.

The shoe features a textile mesh upper with accented overlays around the heel and toe box. At first glance, this could signal a strong internal structure, which means the shoes won’t really lose their shape when worn for extended periods of time.

Plus, with generous ABZORB cushioning, you can probably wear them all day and night without getting sore feet.

According to Complex, the New Balance 2000 ABZORB will be making its way to stores in June, just in time for summer vacation (though we Malaysians probably can’t relate).
