Múm’s first album since the departure of vocalist Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir sounds noticeably different. Gunnar and Örvar’s shared vocal duties and the use of live instrumentation over programmed electronica marks a different direction for the band. Nevertheless Múm remains as chaotically melodic as always and just as restrained. One listen to ‘They Made Frogs Smoke ‘Til They Exploded’ should settle any nagging doubts.
