This Washington native singer, producer, vigilante and dreamer, landed on our musical radar like a phantom battleship. With influences spanning classical music to psychedelic rock, jazz to world music, it’s hard to imagine how the freshly transplanted Brooklyn resident previously struggled to find her unique voice.

After Mushsinah landed a backup singer stint for R&B artist Raheem DeVaughn, she released her self-produced Oscillations EP in 2005 and then the full-length Day Break 2.0 the following February.

Muhsinah’s music is soul-shattering and she is often compared to avant-soul artist Georgia Anne Muldrow. A classically trained pianist, Muhsinah is only 24, but has gained much cred from the streets; Common featured her on ‘Changes’ on his Universal Mind Control album. This year, Muhsinah also releases on web only The Oscillations: Triangle.
