MTV World Stage 2011
Just a couple of days before the biggest concert of the year hits Malaysia! Before you start camping out at the gates of i-City, Shah Alam, here’s the lineup of exciting rockin’ bands (and a boyband) for this year’s MTV World Stage.
Thirty Seconds to Mars
With three studio albums under their belt and a music career that spans over 13 years, this is a band that needs no introduction. Composed of actor Jared Leto (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and songwriter), Shannon Leto (drums, percussion) and Tomo MiliÄević (lead guitar, keyboards), Thirty Seconds to Mars have released three studio albums 30 Seconds to Mars, A Beautiful Lie and most recently the anthemic This Is War. With blistering showmanship by Jared, heart thumping percussion by Shannon and fast riffs by Tomo, an unforgettable performance is guaranteed!
Neon Trees
Formed since 2005, this quartet recently blew up in the radio airwaves with their ultra catchy single ‘Animal’. The band’s lineup consists of vocalist Tyler Glenn, guitarist Chris Allen, bassist Branden Campbell and drummer Elaine Bradley. MTV World Stage would be their second time playing alongside Thirty Seconds to Mars as Neon Trees have opened for their ‘Into The Wild’ tour last year. At the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Neon Trees won their first award winning Alternative song of The Year for the song ‘Animal’ beating out Mumford & Sons, Train, and Linkin Park.
Pop Shuvit
The band who got its name from a skateboarding trick began making waves in the local music scene in late 2001 and since then, has had 4 releases under their belt and gained a sizable fanbase in Asia. They’ve previously opened for My Chemical Romance’s Asian Tour back in 2007.
BEAST
Last year, the guys went gaga for the sexy and sultry Wonder Girls, one of the biggest girl groups in South Korea. This time, the girls will have trouble keeping their heads straight with boyband Beast. Consisting of six members Yoon Doo Joon, Jang Hyun Seung, Yong Jun Hyung, Yang Yo Seob, Lee Gi Kwang and Son Dong Woon, BEAST is actually an acronym for Boys of East Standing Tall. Koreans seem to love using acronyms, don’t they? Anyways, be blown away by their performances this Sunday!
MTV World Stage will be rocking i-City, Shah Alam on Sunday 24 August 2011. For more updates, visit www.worldstage.mtvasia.com.
