From the same folks who brought JUICE to Japan to cover animation conference DigiCon6, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) are back with their annual MSC Malaysia Intellectual Property Creators Challenge 2011(IPCC 2011) with RM1.9 million in grants up for grabs. Introducing “Malaysiana” as their first theme, creative multimedia companies and individuals are encouraged to produce world-class content based on the rich historical, cultural and social elements of Malaysia.

Since 2006, IPCC has helped over 126 individuals and companies to turn their ideas into reality by providing RM 4.59 million in financial support, development space at Cyberjaya, access to MSC Malaysia Animation and Creative Content Centre‘s (MAC3) facilities, plus consultancy from industry heavyweights. The allocation of RM 1.9 million in funds will see 50 deserving groups or companies assistance to further their ideas in the following categories:

Animation
20 deserving applicants will receive RM50,000 each to develop a 3-minute sizzle animation

Computer Casual Games
10 worthy participants will receive RM50,000 each to develop a commercial-ready game

Digital Interactive Comics
20 finalists will receive RM20,000 each to develop a 40-page comic publication and digital interactive comic

To participate, applicants are to submit their ideas from 26 April – 8 August 2011 and receive the opportunity to sell their ideas and express their creativity before a panel of judges, which include Jordan Phang from local games company Zombie Gecko, Juhaidah Joemin from Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel (AJCC) and local comic artist Chin Sau Lim (a.k.a Slaium of Gempak Magazine, during a pitching event from 21 – 22 September. The finalists will undergo an industry-specific training through a series of intensive workshops to provide them with a sturdy foundation to develop their ideas.
