Mos Def Contemplates Death
This 36-year-old Mos Def may be better known as an actor these days but he is one respected MC and this year he released his 4th solo album, titled The Ecstatic, which is already hotting up JUICE‘s own Best of 2009 albums list. He now steps behind the camera to make a documentary film about a near unknown punk band called Death.
Mos Def collaborates with Roc-A-Fella Records’ Damon Dash to document this all black Detroit punk band formed in 1971. In an interview with Filter magazine, the Black Star alumni said, “It’s going to be great. These dudes were pre-Sex Pistols, pre-Bad Brains, pre-all that shit, and nobody knows them. I don’t understand how the whole world could forget them.”
The documentary film is already in production with director Coodie and Chike on board; the pair were responsible for Kanye West’s ‘Through The Wire’ and Mos Def’s ‘Ghetto Rock’ music videos. We can’t wait for Death to reach Malaysia’s cinema…. Wait, most probably the DVD shop. Ahem.
