Thirsty for JUICE content? Quench your cravings on our Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp

2008’s JUICE DJ Quest Regional winner, Anowl spent some QT (Quality Time) filling out our Merdeka Q&A. This drum and bass and dupstep warrior has been making waves in the scene and is surely on his way up to the top. Will he make it to PM level – even for a day? You better watch out.

What does it mean to be Malaysian?
Born in Malaysia and proud to be Malaysian no matter what race. As the PM says, 1Malaysia!

Where did you grow up and what is your fondest childhood memory of Malaysia?
I was born in Taman Datuk Keramat in KL. My childhood was crazy back there. We flew kites, played with marbles, swam in the lake and things like that. Oh man, I miss those good ol’ days! Moved to Kampung Pandan at the age of 8. It was real ghetto.

What’s your definition of independence?
It means free from anything and productive.

Who’s your Malaysian hero?
Tun Sri Dr Mahathir Mohd because he has changed Malaysia into the innovative country that we are living in. KLCC, Putrajaya and the Sepang Circuit are a few examples [of what he has brought].

What are your favorite Malaysians song right now?
1. ‘Negaraku’!
2. Cylical Din- ‘Bass Untuk Saha’
3. Pesawat- ‘Mirage (Anowl Drum & Bass Remix)’
4. SSK- ‘Do It (Anowl Drum & Bass Remix)’

Who is your favourite Malaysian band/artist?
Cylical Din, Pesawat and the Rouge Squadron Crew!

Where is your favourite Malaysian getaway?
Langkawi.

The worst and best Malaysian traits are…
The worst are backstabbers! The best are people are those who respect others, are down to earth and walk the walk. Make and keep it real!

If you were Prime Minister for the day you would…
Create more public transport, bigger carparks at train stations so the roads won’t be jammed … Oh and make it 24 hours so we don’t have to worry when we get back from the club or work late. Also, make the whole nation listen to dubstep and drum and bass. (laughs)

If you could leave Malaysian’s with one thought to ponder this Merdeka what would it be?
We’re a nation of different races and religions. We celebrate everything together especially our Independence. Malaysia is a peaceful country compared to a whole lot of other places dealing with war, starvation and everything sad. I’m proud to be a Malaysian. I love Malaysia!
