Mercury Rev: Snowflake Midnight (Yep Roc)

It’s hard to separate the good from the mediocre in post-rock. Imitators follow the likes of Explosions In The Sky and Mono, but Mercury Rev holds their dreamy soundscape-ground. The New York outfit has been experimenting with ambiance and texture since the mid-80s. Snowflake Midnight is their 7th studio album (one of two albums released simultaneously – the other being Strange Attractor, free for download on the band’s website). Trippy and beautiful, it’s the perfect soundtrack for a night (or day) on an isolated beach.
