Meet Your Resident: Blastique

Getting you closer to your resident beatdroppers, it’s time to meet Rueben A. Samuel aka Blastique, electro house DJ-producer and Ableton whiz kid.

My (DJ) alter ego is…
Blastique. The story behind it is somewhat of a secret, however. Come ask me at one of my gigs and I might tell you the elaborate story if I feel you’ll keep it to yourself.

I play…
On the Ableton Live platform, which allows me to roam freely between ambient, downtempo, funk, tech house, jacking house and electro while mashing with just about anything on the spot.

I am the resident DJ for…
Beats Live ImPromptu (BLIP) at Ecoba and Save The Last Dance (STLD) at Barsonic together with Ganjaguru and Mr. Nasty.

My music makes you want to…
Slap an arse.

You should come to my nights because…
Of the sheer energy and fresh bootlegs that are made on the spot. I also regularly perform with musicians of all backgrounds including Calvin Clarke, an amazing Love Parade percussionist; and Ushera, a vocalist I’ve collaborated with on numerous releases including ‘Come’, a fat breakbeat number forthcoming on Yellowfinger Communications UK in a couple of months).

When I’m on the decks, you can expect…
To find me also roaming away from the decks, controlling my set and occasionally getting punters to jam with me on my wireless drum kits and EFX units.

My club anthem of choice is…
IMMABLEEPYOUUP – ‘Gaban Rides A Beca’ vs. Skrillex – ‘Rock N Roll’. Goes off every time!

My down time song of choice is…
Bach’s Partita No. 5 in G Major.
