White boys are getting more soulful these days. Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke have established some cred, now there’s a new boy in town.

Michigan-born Mayer Hawthorne turns back the clock and sets us on a soulful journey on A Strange Arrangement. Trapped in the 70s, from bongo-fueled funk to slow-dancing grooves, Mayer brings back the good old days of classic-sounding music while still keeping it fresh. With spoken-word intros and Smokey Robinson falsettos in the first single ‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work’, we dig this boy. Plus, he looks like Tobey Maguire on the album cover. No kidding.
