Asa Breed is the most accessible output the Detroit school of minimalism alumnus, Matthew Dear, has turned out yet. Tracks like ‘Pom Pom’ deconstruct new wave and ‘Death to Feelers’ is pleasingly sparce yet lushly ambient. It helps that Dear lends his own baritone vocals to the songs, making the album sound like Nick Cave given an electronic rinsing.
