Massive Attack Teams With Scarlett Johansson?
Bristol trip hop legends Massive Attack, who had worked with the likes of Sinnead O’Connor, Neneh Cherry and Tricky in the past, are now collaborating with a Hollywood star for a new track. Out of all celebs, they’ve picked Scarlett Johansson. Sounds impossible? More 411 after the jump.
So the duo are currently busy working in the studio with ScarJo to record a cover of George Gershwin’s jazz classic entitled ‘Summertime’ for the movie soundtrack to forthcoming Mexican thriller Dias de Gracia (Days of Grace), directed by Everardo Gout. Aside from the odd collaboration, the movie soundtrack will also feature music from Atticus Ross, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
In 2006, the actress had recorded the song with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Unexpected Dreams – Songs From the Stars compilation, a non-profit collection of songs recorded by Hollywood actors including Ewan McGregor and Teri Hetcher. But we predict Massive Attack’s musical touch will give a fresh vibe to this jazz classic.
In case you didn’t know, ScarJo’s music career began in 2008 when she released debut album As I Lay My Head which contained her renditions of Tom Waits songs (produced by TV on the Radio’s David Sitek). This was followed by her collaboration album with Pete Yorn a year later. So this upcoming track should fit her CV very well.
Maybe some of you might question her singing credibility but do check out her solo version of ‘Summertime’ below. That girl can actually sing!
