The usual Nasi Lemak template – with Ayam Goreng Berempah, that is – is given a special twist at the Penang home-cooked nyonya restaurant, Mamalee. Located in Damansara Uptown, it’s the perfect place if you’ve grown tired of eating the same ol’ Nasi Lemak (*cough* Village Park *cough*) during your lunch break there, but not keen on trying out abominations like the numerous Nasi Lemak Burgers out there.

Though generously proportioned, the element that really pops out – and will make your tummy rumble a bit more – is the freshly fried chicken that is topped with salted egg sauce. Yes, the one key ingredient that makes everything better. Obviously, the Salted Egg Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak still retains its classic ingredients such as rice, egg, cucumber, sambal, and anchovies. And don’t worry, the sauce will not make the chicken soggy. In fact, it will still be crunchy by the end of the meal.

Besides the fan-fave sambal and salted egg sauce in their Nasi Lemak, Mamalee’s got a great comfy environment and reasonable price to boot, so you won’t have to break your bank. If you’re afraid of changes and want to stick to the classic Nasi Lemak dish, go ahead! It’s just as good too. But if Nasi Lemak fatigue has set in from all its variants’ hype, here are some other local staples served at Mamalee:

Penang Asam Laksa
Deep fried lobster with butter and salt.
Baked crab with salt.
Stir fried ginger garlic crab with bean paste.
