Malaysians will soon be able to apply for passports with a 10-year validity period at a fee of RM350, according to a government gazette published yesterday.
The gazette, signed by Chief Secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, also states that senior citizens aged 60 and above will enjoy a reduced rate of RM175. Meanwhile, holders of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) cards will continue to receive passports free of charge.
The official implementation date for 10-year Passport Validity is expected to be announced soon. At present, Malaysians pay RM200 for a passport valid for five years, while senior citizens are charged RM100.
The new gazette also revises fees for replacing lost or damaged passports. For Malaysians aged 13 to 59, the first replacement will now cost RM550, up from the previous RM400. A second replacement will be charged at RM850, while any subsequent replacements will cost RM1,350.
For senior citizens, replacement fees are set at RM375 for the first replacement, RM675 for the second, and RM1,175 for any additional replacements.
PWD cardholders will be charged RM200 for a first replacement, RM500 for a second replacement, and RM1,000 for any further replacements.
