Malaysian Dubstep Alliance presents Fight Night @ Milk
It’s the battle of musical trends. Electro’s been tearing up dancefloors for a few years now, but dubstep is creeping up into and out of the soundspeakers of clubs everywhere. It’s time to settle this once and for all.
The place was packed and the crowd filed in, lured by the comforting sounds of well known electro. As the dancefloor filled up, dubstep came on and the crowd started throwing out the unmistakable dance moves associated with the genre. Milk provided the perfect soundsystem for the bass heavy dubstep. Then as DJ’s rotated, so did genres, so back to electro it went, then to dubstep and so forth – the crowd was pretty stoked on electro but dubstep was well received.
While instead of dramatically facing off (like I imagined it would go down in my head), dubstep and electro flowed into each other all night. Which made it impossible for this reporter to declare a winner. I was a bit dissapointed, I was looking forward to an all out battle, the start stop of the music, goaded on by the emcee and a dramatic finish followed by the winning crowd cheering and the loser walking away in defeat, or maybe I just watch too many movies where dance-offs are an acceptable form of conflict resolution.
But I digress, they say it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game, and I say well played Fight Night, well played. So here’s to more fusion nights, it’s time to diversify our musical palate!
