Droolotte Tasha. The name might not ring a bell, but learn it now because this 26-year-old Malaysian DJ could be the next big thing in clubland. As the winner of the 1st international DJ Awards Bedroom DJ competition, Droolotte beat 69 other contestants after she posted her video at www.djawards.com about 2 months ago.

Thousands of DJs and fans logged onto www.djawards.com to watch the competition entries and vote for their favourite bedroom DJ. As part of the prize for winning Droolotte flew to Ibiza for a once-in-a-lifetime trip that included a masterclass with Paul Van Dyk at the legendary Cafe Mambo in late September. She also attended the DJ Awards which took place at Pacha Ibiza.

A classically trained pianist, Droolotte started conducting youth orchestras at age 14, discovering she liked “being in control of the music.” Her introduction to dance was through old Prodigy cassettes, but she quickly found her true passion in the music of trance artists like Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten.

“I am literally a bedroom DJ – I love to get up and do a 2-hour mix every morning before I go to work,” she says with a laugh. Her winning set, mixed in 1 take, demonstrates her ease behind the decks and infectious delight in dance music.
