Los Campesinos!: Romance Is Boring (Wichita)

With confidence in numbers, Cardiff-based Los Campesinos carry on their gleeful Brit rock. Those sick of sappy love songs will find solace in the band’s jumpy tunes. Imagine the brass-power and fun of ska bands like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones channelled into Brit indie punk sing-a-longs.

Ambitious opener ‘In Medias Res’ bears a brief orchestral intro before kicking into full stadium rock glory. The title track then slaps you with a straight-up ballsy chorus. Romance Is Boring is full of rewarding hooks and LC doesn’t worry too much about dramatic build-ups as declared on ‘Straight in at 101’ (“I think we need more post-coital and less post-rock / Feels like the build-up takes forever but you never touch my c*ck”). And with each member adopting Campesino as their surname ala-The Ramones, this is as fun as music gets.
