LISTEN: Phoenix’s ‘Alone on Christmas Day (feat. Bill Murray)’

You’ve seen the Netflix trailer for the star-studded, Sofia Coppola-directed A Very Murray Christmas; here’s a song featuring the eponymous star and Sofia’s husband’s band Phoenix. The beloved French band disclosed that ‘Alone on Christmas Day’ is actually an unreleased track from The Beach Boys, they heard the song via an old bootleg. This version by the band is uncanny to the original recording, especially considering Thomas Mars’ vocals. And as expected, Bill Murray pops in and out of the track to provide some playful, croaky singing. The track also features Jason Schwartzman, Paul Shaffer of Letterman fame, and David Johansen or Buster Poindexter, the frontman of iconic protopunk band The New York Dolls. All proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to UNICEF.
