Post-rock band Mogwai will soon release Atomic, a collection of reworked versions of their songs from the soundtrack of BBC documentary Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, making it their first new release since their last album Rave Tapes two years ago. The 2015 documentary directed by Mark Cousins was solely comprised of archived film and footage; it centres on the phenomenal horrors and triumphs as a result of nuclear energy. These two opposing features of atomic energy are reflected in the mood of single ‘U-235’ — it’s bleak, yet there is a certain wistful tone to it.
