LISTEN: midst’s ‘Away’
Singaporean trio midst — self-styled bedroom musicians with a penchant for the lowtemp — came out of nowhere with their surprisingly polished debut single ‘Captivate‘ off forthcoming yet-to-be-titled EP, earning them comparisons to the likes of The xx and London Grammar thanks to Kin and Jeremy’s similar chord progression and Rachel’s hushed vocals. Second single ‘Away’ is no less captivating. Inspired by a short film of the same name, the band states that the track “veers a little to an experimental side of [their] electronic nature,” and it’s easy to hear that element exuding from the track; ‘Away’ is ostensibly composed as the score to an imaginary film, with Rachel’s vocals only coming in much later into the track.
