LISTEN: Midnight-Oil Vol. 7
Cover art Daniel Milk
The first volume of local beat cypher Midnight-Oil to debut on national radio — thanks to the support of BFM’s Into The Blue — Vol. 7 samples ’80s r’n’b songstress Stacy Lattisaw’s cover of the classic soul ballad ‘Love on a Two-Way Street‘. While Akyla‘s roster dominates this iteration’s lineup as per norm, it still sees a few new faces in Singapore’s FZPZ and the US’ Binx and R3YL joining the cadre of DJ-producers. Each act brought their A-game of course, and interestingly there was the switching of aesthetics between KAIN and Reddi Rocket — the former opted for a hip hop beat while it was the latter that chose to give the sample a d’n’b treatment instead. Who killed it? Let us know in the comments.
