If Lykke Li’s new songs off her upcoming LP I Never Learn so far are anything to go by, the Swedish songstress has completely eschewed the oddball Scandinavian pop sounds associated with her. But then again, only her debut Youth Novels fit that template, sophomore Wounded Rhymes removed her from the likes of Annie and Robyn considerably — and latest single ‘No Rest For the Wicked’ reaffirms her claim that I Never Learn is to be a series of power ballads like “one of those old radio stations.” Sounding like a celebration of elegiac notions, the track is built around sparse piano keys and crashing drums over morose words like “I’m so alone”, which then hung momentarily before the chorus kicks in big, making her pain almost cathartic.

I Never Learn will be available worldwide on 5 May ’14. Keep updated at www.lykkeli.com.
