LISTEN: KAIN’s Cold/Headlock EP

source: KAIN

Stephan Kain’s double release, Cold/Headlock, stems from a couple of things; 1) the need to finally finish a long-gestating beat (‘Cold’) left in the backburner for some time (“… before it became irrelevant,”), and 2) Stephan’s desire to compose something that’s more apt for DJ sets (‘Headlock’). The result is exactly as intended — one could imagine bumping to these tracks on the grimy basement dancefloors of the glory days of London’s bass music peak. This DJ-oriented vibe isn’t quite novel though, as Stephan had put it in the EP’s EPK, it’s closer to his roots than the music off his forthcoming album — which is described as “emotional” and “taxing.”
