Justin’s single ‘What Do You Mean’ is still undeniably infectious; we have yet to tire from the tropical house hit. However, a reimagining of the song would be refreshing, so insert TRONICBOX, a Canadian composer and arranger whose real name is Jerry Shen. He’s transformed both ‘What Do You Mean?’ and ‘Love Yourself’ into songs that one might hear on top of the pop charts in 1985 – a year where the likes of Wham!, Phil Collins, and Madonna dominated the charts. Here, ‘What Do You Mean?’ is a ballad that’s complete with a saxophone solo, while ‘Love Yourself’ on the other hand is the better remake from the two if you ask us. Shen has taken the simple, bare album version and implemented it with a funky slap bass and other throwback ’80s new wave pop elements.
