If you are familiar with Pure X, then you would recognise Jesse Jenkins who plays the bass and occasionally sings for the debilitatingly heartbreaking psych-rock band from Texas. Stepping out on his own, Jesse released ‘Hotel Rising’, which was conceived during a drive through dust storms. His efforts of describing the ephemeral clouds of dust in this song can be heard in the gentle brushing of the percussion that sounds almost jazzy. In fact, when the track opened, it did feel as if we were in a jazz lounge until Jesse sang in his delicate falsetto. The whir of the synthesiser and crystalline acoustic guitar both elevate the track beyond just a lackadaisical effort.
