While those only familiar with Machinedrum’s solo work would probably be surprised to find out that the glitch-jungle producer has produced for artistes such as Azealia Banks and Theophilus London, the man has been working on an album with neo soul revivalist (and best friend) Jesse Boykins III for some three years now. With a release date finally set for the latter’s Love Apparatus LP (22 April), Jesse is at long last brought into the fold of Machinedrum’s collaborators — and the extensive period of creative decantation proves to be worth the wait. Latest single ‘Live In Me’ injects some dub into soul while still keeping it within the mid-tempo range, complementing the Chi-city singer’s throwback vocals just right. We imagine music journos would clamour for the album as yet another example of the perceived alt r’n’b movement’s latest opus.
Love Apparatus is set for a 22 April ’14 release date. More on Jesse Boykins III here.
