Orlando Napier’s name came up on the first day of Grizmas, and we couldn’t for the life of us figure out where we’d heard it before. Then we heard the track — and it all clicked. This was the hatted soulman that stole America’s hearts away on The Voice with a cover of John Mayer’s ‘Waiting On The World To Change’ a couple of years back. Since his appearances on national TV though, he’s been pretty much under the radar (a couple of songs here and there, with Gramatik and his own band), until now, of course. Blowing through the noise with a strong vocal introduction, he seems to have matured, he doesn’t sound as nasally and his phrasing is a lot more on point now than it was back then. GRiZ, as usual, has his phuture phunk game strong, with lots of Rhode usage, guitar hooks, and heavy drum and bass.
