This isn’t the most timely of posts but this two-week old cover of Foo Fighters’ 1999 hit by LA r’n’b artiste Gallant is a rework of the rock track that deserves a mention. Gallant’s version is unlike the literal, humorous original version that’s embedded in our minds despite its yrical content. This cover fully addresses the emotional aspect of the Foo song with its new arrangements that incorporate a gentle gospel choir vocal and a grounding, rumbling drum that obviously provides a heightened contrast within the two-minute track. However, just as how Gallant is singing about “lear[ning] to fly high,” the determination can be clearly heard in the precisely honed high-pitched note near the end.
