Australian singer Caitlin Park is ready to write her new album after the critical success of her sophomore The Sleeper, but first, she has written and recorded her rendition of Marvin Gaye’s early ’70s classic ‘Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)‘, which is a heartfelt lament on the environment’s health. There’s been a few covers of the song throughout the years; for instance, it appeared on the B-side of The Strokes’ ‘You Only Live Once’ that featured Eddie Vedder and Josh Homme. Caitlin’s version, however, sees her not only significantly rethinking the famous song into an electronic soulful interpretation that’s suited for today’s pop milieu, but the cover also deviates from her previous works that tended towards pop folk, so this could be a hint to what’s coming up for Caitlin.
