Lindstrøm & Christabelle: Real Life Is No Cool (Feedelity)
After the release of Lindstrøm’s excellent solo album Where You Go I Go Too in 2008 and last year’s collaboration with Prins Thomas on II, Norway’s maestro of disco returns with sultry vocalist Christabelle. Real Life Is No Cool is an edgy space disco album that while predominately dancey has its surprises in dark and ambivalent synths and gangsta basslines (‘Lovesick’). This is a huge album, or at least it tries to be, while balancing its own pop factor. Things go all James Brown with horns on ‘Baby Can’t Stop’ and closer ‘High & Low’ shows that even Scandinavians have soul, brother.
