With 3 Norwegians (ex-members of Nordic pop success story Briskeby) and one American-turned-European (ex-REM and Posies founding member Ken Stringfellow), The Disciplines sound like they have gone the distance despite Smoking Kills being their debut album. Ken’s penchant for writing brash American indie rock is indulged for most of the album but the thoughtful slow ride ‘Oslo’ is the show-stopper and already a big hit in Norway. The rest of Europe looks ripe to follow.
