JW Black Circuit Lounge Chat: DJ Politik
Don’t grunt and moan about his name. Believe us, his songs have nothing to do with politics. This 23 year old is internationally and locally known for his attractive style in DJing. He has a good balance of rock, pop, hip hop, house, and top 40 in his set. He’s showed off his disc jockey talents at private celebrity bashes for Usher, Nicole Richie, and P. Diddy, and corporate shindigs with Microsoft, Red Bull, Coca-A-Cola, OP, Neuro, Dolce & Gabbana, and Armani Exchange. DJ Politik will also be a part of Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge party tomorrow and because JUICE is pretty awesome, we managed to have a little chat with the man himself…
What do you feel makes you different from other DJs?
I think it’s definitely my style of mixing and song selection. I combine lots of different elements of DJing into my sets to keep things interesting. I will scratch & juggle like a hip hop DJ, but will also incorporate effects and harmonise mixes with my house/electro sets. I’ll throw hip hop acapellas over house beats, squeeze in an old Motown record, or even drop some dubstep. You never really know what you’re gonna get…
When was the last time you laughed so hard that you cried?
I was actually in NYC a couple weeks ago and got a chance to catch The Book of Mormon on Broadway…I couldn’t stop laughing! Amazing!
Who is your dream person to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with A-Trak or Diplo. I think they both share an equal love for hip hop and electronic music the same way that I do.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself continuing to do what I love – traveling the world playing music for everyone to enjoy, as well as producing my own original music and remixes!
Name us the top 10 most played songs on your playlist.
Calvin Harris & Rihanna – We Found Love
Flo Rida – Wild Ones (Nicky Romero Remix)
Swedish House Mafia – Antidote
Tyga – Rack City
Jay-Z & Kanye West – Gotta Have It
Rick Ross – Stay Schemin’ (Feat. Drake & French Montana)
Alesso – Raise Your Head
Hardwell – Spaceman
Nero – Promises (Skrillex & Nero Remix)
Tyga – Faded (Feat. Lil Wayne)
What’s your political affiliation? If you have any.
I know it’s going to sound ironic because of my name but…I’m completely indifferent when it comes to politics! I would say I’m liberal on social issues but more conservative on fiscal issues.
What can we expect from you at Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge?
