Thirsty for JUICE content? Quench your cravings on our Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp

A joint effort with HOT! and JUICE magazines, Spanish fashion label Pull & Bear recently held a competition in which they asked readers to send in their most creative eco-friendly ideas. When it came to the winning ideas, the top 3 incorporated one or more elements from the 3Rs of environmental friendliness, namely Reuse, Reduce & Recycle, and when the winner emerged and he was a JUICE reader! Ole!

2nd Runner-Up Jocelyn Chee’s inspiration was to “Save Gas, Save Energy & Reduce Wastage by making gift items that are fun, practical & green!”. Jocelyn used unwanted planks of wood to build herself a stationary holder and a miniature bird house winning her a RM300 Pull & Bear shopping voucher.

1st Runner-Up Lisa Yeow Mei Yuin won a RM600 Pull & Bear Shopping voucher with her home-made eco-conscious potpourri.  But it was Kenneth Lim, avid JUICE reader, that took the grand prize of a RM1000 Pull & Bear shopping voucher with his ‘practice what you preach’ idea. Here’s what Kenneth suggests….

Think before you throw Glass and plastic bottles can be recycled and so can tin cans and scrap paper. If you do need to use plastic bags, Kenneth recommends biodegradable ones or non-woven cloth bags.

Reuse ‘trash’ and turn them into useful items Old cups can be used as pencil holders, bottles as toothbrush holders, old clothes can be used as cleaning rags … there is no limit to one’s imagination.

Restrict your usage of daily household equipment Use energy saving bulbs, conserve water and electricity by turning them off when not in use.

Right on, Kenneth! While Kenneth takes home RM1000 for his practical tips, and all participants took home a Pull & Bear tee for their efforts, we’re all winners really, learning a little bit more about sustainable living from the competition.

On the international front, Pull and Bear have also created the Pull and Bear Forest, a two-fold environmental project which will see an additional 13,000 trees being planted at the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. Pull and Bear have additionally started publishing its catalogue exclusively on its website, in order to help prevent the potential deforestation to manufacture paper.
