JT On Top Of The World
Sick of scaling just music charts, Justin Timberlake has decided there ain’t no mountain high enough for him. The pop crooner whose last album LoveSex/FutureSounds debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart, has decided to try to overcome a bigger challenge – Mount Kilimanjaro.
This coming fall, JT will hook up with Lupe Fiasco and Kenna to scale the Tanzanian peak that measures over 5,892 (19,330 ft) in height. The 6-day trek is part of a charity drive to raise awareness for the clean water crisis that was conceived by Kenna. “My dad almost died from waterborne disease” the Ethiopian-born singer told Elle mag. “I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water. Maybe I can help out.”
This would be Kenna’s 2nd attempt, his 1st ended in disappointment when he developed serious allergies to his altitude sickness meds after scaling 5,547 metres (18,200ft). Still the singer was lucky. Every year, more than 10 people die from serious altitude sickness trying to reach the top.
This climb will really test out their air pipes and lungs capacity – JT has been training 4 times a week to get his VO2 (oxygen consumption) up to expand his lungs. This dedication has pushed Kenna to train in private – “I refuse to work out with him, because he’s way fitter than I am. I’m training in secret.” While Lupe Fiasco said, “part of the motivation is beating Kenna to the top. Sabotaging his tent, taking the lining out of his coat, lacing it with ants or something like that.” What great climbing buddies!
