Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Penang@32 at the Mansion

Johnnie Walker is partyin’ it up like Sir Francis Light once did! That is, not so much colonialist takeover but island party paradise!

The award-winning world’s number one Scotch whiskey and global partner of Formula 1 team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes since 2005, brought the ultimate race party experience to Penang for the first time. To say that Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Penang back in 25 August was just an event will be a gross understatement. It was something not to be missed, and thankfully for JUICE, we didn’t. For starters, it was a classy affair where the who’s who made appearances. The European supercars parked right outside the venue gave the event an exclusiveness from the get go. Whether you’re a high-roller or not, being in the same room as those guys meant you’re in the right place. The Black Circuit Penang provided Malaysians with an insider-access opportunity to live the style and global glamour of an authentic Grand Prix race party.

So what is Johnnie’s secret? Was it blow in their whisky like those crazy cola guys? Most probably not, but whatever it is, we were treated like royalties. Hosted at 32 at the Mansion, we were welcomed by two columns of staff, all ready to serve both sides of the red carpet we were walking on – now that’s star treatment!

We didn’t get too hasty with the drinks though because right out at the patio were two world class bartenders, Chong Yi Shawn and Amanda Wan. And each sip of their drinks hits our lips like liquid gold. Our favourite was definitely Shawn’s Johnnie Nut Sour; which is Johnnie Walker with a little bit of lime and a hint of nutty twist to it – simple, delicate and shockingly delicious.

The night kicked off with DJ Reeve on the decks playing his usual signature of live remixes of pop, dance, hip hop and electro music. Next in line was DJ FM who hailed from Singapore, famed for his hip hop nights at Filter. While his sound was a little similar to Reeve, he did inject a couple of classic tracks to his mix. Everything ended on a high note with Hollywood resident, DJ Teemaree, who coincidently celebrated her birthday the same day.

Towards the last remaining hour, everyone was still having fun – some a little too much. Not only because Johnnie Walker knows how to throw a heck of a party but also because everything seemed to gel so well together; the music, the drinks, the club was by the beach and although it rained, it only made the walk back to the hotel more cooling. JUICE can’t wait for the next Black Circuit!

This by-invitation-only event in the spirit of the Monaco GP played host to the crème de la crème of Penang society and 200 loyal fans of Johnnie Walker that won passes via www.blackcircuit.com.my/Facebook.
