Introducing Willow Smith

Introducing the latest addition to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation, Willow Smith. Her debut single ‘Whip My Hair’ sounds like a young Ciara mixed with the catchy pop style of Gaga and Rihanna combined. The catch is that this singer is nine years old!! Willow is the daughter of powerhouse couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and believe me, her gene pool gives her what it takes to become the next international pop sensation : looks, confidence and star power.

After watching her interview with Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, it’s hard not be sucked into this little girl’s persona. ‘Whip My Hair’ is all about being an individual, celebrating freedom, energy and liberating yourself by whipping yo’ hair! Produced by newcomer Jukebox, there are already rave reviews about this song, and has generated over 2 million hits on YouTube. It’s obvious that this girl has a clear vision, and has already been compared to a young Michael Jackson. When Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter first heard the track, he knew it was going to be a hit and had no idea that it was recorded by a 9 year old.

Believing in Willow’s talent, Jay-Z commented, “It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.” Jay-Z also brought in super songstress Rihanna to the spotlight when she was only 16, saying that she was going to be a star and he was right.

The question is, is she too young? To be manipulated and made over by the engorging American music industry? Well Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson both started their music careers at 8 years old, both examples of many young child stars. Time will tell with this budding star, Willow Smith. All you can do now is let your hair loose and whip it like a helicopter! (And for those with short hair, get some extensions!).
