Insiders Say Celcom Axiata & Digi Will Merge To Be The Biggest Telco Provider In M’sia

Talks of Celcom and Digi merging started since May of 2019 but the deal was put off for a while before coming back again in March of this year.

According to The Edge, sources say Celcom Axiata Bhd, a unit of Axiata Group Bhd will merge with Digi.Com Bhd to create the biggest mobile service provider in Malaysia.

Trading in shares of Axiata and Digi.Com were also suspended this morning, a sign that this merger will come together.

Several analysts and experts said the merger will benefit both companies in a number of ways and strengthen its position in the regional telecommunications arena, as well as reduce costs to support 5G networks in the future.
